Opportunity Assessment
Summary
Deecon was engaged by Cable Giants to deliver a strategic Opportunity Assessment to identify priority opportunities and inform the organisation’s long-term strategic focus and commercial direction. A structured three-step approach was adopted, comprising financial analysis, internal analysis, and external relevance analysis. Deecon engaged with 11 key stakeholders across the Cable Giants team, conducting seven workshops to develop a detailed understanding of the organisation and its strategic context. The engagement concluded with a comprehensive report summarising the findings in a SWOT Analysis, a Risk Analysis, and 16 Recommendations with outlined implementations.
The Requirement
Deecon was engaged by Cable Giants to undertake a strategic Opportunity Assessment to gain a clearer understanding of its financial and commercial position and to identify opportunities to strengthen future performance. The engagement focused on providing an objective, structured view of the organisations current strategic and financial position through workshops, financial analysis, and contractual review, in order to develop practical, evidence-based recommendations that could be implemented to enhance strategic decision making.
The Solution
Deecon adopted a structured three-phase approach, combining financial insight with an assessment of internal capabilities and external market context.
Phase 1: Financial Analysis
Deecon conducted a detailed review of Cable Giants’ key financial statements to identify core challenges and develop a comprehensive understanding of the organisation’s financial position.
Conducted a vertical and horizontal financial and performance analysis to identify major changes and patterns
Examined Cable Giants’ key financial ratios and cost structure
Produced a preliminary financial insights list, which was reviewed during the Internal Analysis
Phase 2: Internal Analysis
Deecon assessed Cable Giants’ internal context, operating model, and ways of working to understand how internal capabilities and processes support the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Conducted face-to-face workshops with Cable Giants’ stakeholders to understand departmental specificities
Discussed the company’s strategical, operational and commercial stance through individual workshops
Produced an Interim Insights document summarising provisional findings and recommendations
Phase 3: External Relevance Analysis
Deecon evaluated the external environment to understand how market dynamics, industry trends, and external risks and opportunities interact with Cable Giants’ internal capabilities. Insights from this phase were used to refine earlier findings and shape a set of practical, prioritised opportunities, balancing near term improvements with longer-term strategic considerations.

The Results
This engagement concluded with a comprehensive Recommendations Report that provided Cable Giants with a clear, structured view of its strategic position and a practical roadmap for action. Key outputs included:
SWOT Analysis: A consolidated assessment of Cable Giants’ core strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It collated financial, operational, and market insights into a single coherent strategic view.
Risk Analysis: Identification of 14 material risks, each assessed in terms of potential impact and likelihood, with corresponding mitigation actions to support decision-making and proactive risk management.
Strategic Recommendations: A set of 16 prioritised recommendations, comprising:
